This database is a "work in progress". At present it attempts to define the basic elements comprising Canine Freestyle and include various training techniques that can be used to teach a dog to assume positions and perform 'moves' on command.
It is assumed the dog knows basic obedience and the handler knows how to train using positives; luring, clicker and/or bridge and target. No attempt is made to describe the training techniques in any exact detail because each exercise needs to be broken up into small increments according to what the dog can handle. The descriptions on this web site are only to give an idea of what has worked for the people contributing these ideas.
The data is categorized as follows:
Describes which way the dog is facing relative to the handler |
Common positions of a dog in relation to the handler |
At any time the handler and dog can be moving in the same direction or in different directions |
What the dog can do. These are independent of direction and orientation. |
Describes various handler-dog orientations and handler movements in relation to the dog moving in a weaving pattern.. |
Describing common methods of moving a dog from one point to another |
